Colorado Fishing (October)

Bill and I traveled to Colorado where we were able to fish a lot of different water. And all the streams we fished were gold medal water. we started our trip off heading straight from DIA to Casper Wy, . We Fished Gray Reef for half a day and then went to Miracle Mile further up the same river. all this being the North Platte. we must of hit a bad run or something. almost nothing. Apparantly these waters produce HUGE fish around this time but we didnt hit it right. Then we floated an 8 mile stretch of the North Platte. Stormy weather proved this to be tough fishing and unproductive till I threw a white streamer in the water and caught a 17" rainbow. By the end of the day our local freind Andy pulled in a 21" brown.
We then headed down to the Frying Pan in Basalt Co, and had a great day on Dry RS2. at one point we were pulling in fish every cast. They weren't huge but averaged 12" and it was a blast. It also was one of the most beautiful settings any fisherman could ask for. We slept through a 9degree night and had ALL of our wet gear freeze. We ended up fishing the mouth of the Frying pan to the Roaring Fork. I caught my biggest fish of the trip at about 20" cutbow and fat. we fished the roaring fork and had a great time catching lots of fish about 16" or bigger. Me, Andy and Bill headed back to Denver and the next day Bill and I headed back through the range in a rental car to Steamboat Springs.
We fished The Yampa just outside of Stagecoach resivour. We stayed there for 3 days and had THE best fishing either of us had ever had. we caught mor rainbows and cutbows 16" to 20" than we could count. At one point Bill was coming to net my fish and while his flies were dragging through the water he caught a fish. You had to be carefull not to step on fish, that was how many in this stretch of the Yampa. Bill ended up catching the beast of the trip. A whopping 24" brown and beautiful. put up one hell of a fight. We ended our last day hunting this 30" brown guarding its nest and failed. But overall was an amazing trip.
